KERZNER MAZAGAN BEACH RESORT LAUNCH PARTY !!

Roses are the new black...

Remember this group of posts :-

http://wendylady2.livejournal.com/36571.html

This was all about the opening of the beautiful new Atlantis Hotel Resort in Dubai...
Well, the owner of that resort - billionaire tycoon, Sol Kerzner - has opened a second hotel resort in El Jadida in Morocco, just about 55 miles southwest of Casablanca...and at the weekend, he threw another almighty bash to celebrate its opening, with a guest list of around 1500, about half of whom were A-lister celebrities !!

So, of course, there were a good deal of beautiful, and some not quite so beautiful dresses being shown off, and of course, I kindly paid a visit on your behalf just to see what I could see...how thoughtful !!

Come and see who wore what... )

I'm reading a book about the practice of English language teaching. The author is convinced that "expensive" and "costly" have two different meanings....without explaining which ones! Could you enlighten me?
Thank you.

Have added the following tags:
  • nichelle nichols/uhura
  • george takei/sulu
  • james doohan/scotty
  • walter koenig/chekov
  • next generation
  • voyager
  • enterprise
  • deep space nine
I also made a 'dvd' tag 'cause the release is coming up, renamed the !wednesday tag to reflect the addition of crafting, and renamed 'premieres' to 'premieres/award shows/events'.  Please tag accordingly!

Suggestions for other tags are welcome; however, please keep in mind (1) how many posts would be able to be tagged with the new tag -- let's say 10 or so at a minimum for the tag to be useful -- and (2) whether those posts are already adequately covered by other tags.

If original posters could go back and tag their entries as you have time, that'd be great -- if you want to post links here in the comments for me and the other mods to tag, that'd be fine too.  Thanks!!!

New candids of Anton Yelchin (and costars Jodie Foster & Mel Gibson) from the NYC set of dark comedy "The Beaver". The film stars Gibson as Walter Black, a depressed man who believes a beaver puppet he wears is real. Anton plays his son.

NEW YORK - OCTOBER 21: Mel Gibson, Jodie Foster and Anton Yelchin are seen on the movie set of 'The Beaver' on October 21, 2009 in the Bronx borough of New York City.

Jodi Foster looks so much like Martha Stewart here it's creeping me out. )

For our New Yorkers, Backstage.com says production is ongoing until Nov. 20th.

The Beaver, a comic drama about a man who treats a hand puppet like a living creature. Directed by Jodie Foster. Shooting continues to Nov. 20. With Foster and Mel Gibson. Principals: No information available. Background: Grant Wilfley Casting, 123 W. 18th St., 8th fl., NYC 10011.

I just read a nice little article on blanketing, since it's blanket season for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere (grumble). The highlights:

-Horses that are clipped or kept in barns under light to discourage winter coat production should be blanketed when temperatures drop below 60*F or when it is windy or rainy.
-Horses with a moderate hair coat can tolerate temperatures as low as 40*F. If they have a heavy coat, they can tolerate temperatures down to about 30* F. Wet conditions change these temperature limits, so keep that in mind when blanketing!
-A horse that has recently moved from a warmer climate might benefit from some external help. Once they've spent the 10-21 days being exposed to the colder weather, they will adapt and need less help, but you might find it beneficial to blanket them until the next winter.
-Older horses that move around less benefit from blanketing in colder weather. Moving generates body heat which is why we often see horses' levels of exuberance rise with cold weather!
-Remove the blanket on a regular basis--check to make sure your horse is not losing body condition, doesn't have blanket rubs or injuries, and is not developing a skin problem such as rain rot under the blanket.
-When the weather is rainy, check to make sure the blanket is waterproof--you will be fighting a losing battle trying to keep a wet horse warm with a wet blanket! Place your hand under the blanket around the neck--your horse should feel dry and toasty warm.

Okay, so I realize it might be slightly early to be asking this question, but the Equine Affair in Massachusetts is next week and I hope to be doing some of my holiday shopping for my horsey friends there. Only problem is, I am terrible at thinking of things to get people, and I don't have a whole lot of money to spend. So my question to you all is, what would you like a friend to give you as a gift that would be useful or just plain fun, but not too expensive. Links to the items you mention would be awesome!

Thank you!

I posted the other day about possible exercise options for a new mare. Well, she arrived on Wednesday and it doesn't look like I'll be needing to ride her soon anyway! )

She is thin, up close not in fact as painfully so as she first appears - her height and length seem to make her look even worse. She's started to fill in in places already after just two days of chilling out and munching as much as I can get into her safely. Please don't think her condition is at ALL any form of neglect - her previous owner is the last person who would ever underfeed a horse, Libby was fed huge feeds twice a day and had access to free choice haylage and good grass, her condition was monitored closely by vets and it was decided to keep the foal on her for as long as possible unless she started to drop even more weight. Her lack of muscle is a factor in her skinnyness, but her eyes are bright, her coat and skin are good, and she will quite happily go hooleying around the field when the mood takes her!!

Feed wise she's currently having monitored hay (have noticed that she's a gannet who doesn't drink all that much, so am introducing salt into her diet to encourage drinking before piling hay in front of her), and two feeds daily consisting of two large scoops of high fibre chop, a half scoop of hi-fibre cubes, a half scoop of beet pulp and a half scoop of soaked grass nuts, with a joint supplement, a body builder supplement and a pro-biotic at the recommended doses, plus oil, salt and cider vinegar. I want to up the beet and grass nuts by the end of the week, but am waiting for her milk to dry off first.

Speaking of, any tips on drying up milk? My other mare is still producing milky fluid two years after foaling, but it's never a full bag and has never caused a problem, so all the things I tried with her clearly didn't work!!

Hello everyone

I was going through some of my old videos from the barn and I found this one that's fairly recent...from August or September I'd say. I don't quite remember if I posted this video on here...chances are I probably did, but I thought it was cute and in case I didn't post it, I thought it would be nice to share! This is me playing around with Justin after I fed him a mint and he was looking for treats...excuse my messy hair. It was all sweaty and gross.

EDIT: Since I've been reminded that this was infact a re-post, again I apologize, I just wasn't sure if I had posted it before or not. I thought that people would maybe just like to see a "fluffy" horse video, not necessarily informative or having related to anything, just being around a horse really but it appears I was wrong.

Anyway, perhaps this could relate to the video I had made of tacking this same steed up. I know I posted that video where I had some trouble bridling him. Well, after looking at his reaction to it, I suppose that maybe going by some of the tips I got from the tacking up video that putting a mint by the bit while bridling will help-does this seem accurate?

If you do not find this video interesting/exciting or whatever, please do not leave rude comments telling me so.
